Shopify Speed Optimization: How It Works

Overview

Welcome to your new Shopify speed optimization service at Whole Design Studios.

To ensure our work together goes smoothly we have prepared some additional information below about your new service and how it works

We know great communication is at the core of a successful relationship.

To ensure we get the best results possible from your site speed optimization project we need to listen to you and communicate well with each other.

Included in your service period is one 30 minute expert call. Used for planning, to discuss strategy and analyse results.

Service Process

Here is a recap of our process as outlined in your kick-off email.

1. Contract

We sent you the contract to sign via SignNow app in a new email chain. Please sign before we can commence work.

2. Shopify themes

Please confirm which theme we should duplicate and perform the optimization work on. Is it the current live theme? Are there any other developers currently working on the site?

You can find your live theme here.

We will duplicate the live theme and work on the optimization process as a preview theme.

NB: During this time theme changes need to be put on pause so we have no issues from version control or work being overwritten.

3. Shopify theme access

If you are a concurrent customer and we already have store access please ignore step 3.

We will send you a request via Shopify experts ‘managed stores’ via email. Please accept the email request and give us full access.

If you can’t find the email please search in your Gmail or equivalent for subject: ‘View request by Whole Design Studios to access your store’. You can also accept the request via your Shopify dashboard.

4. Shopify apps

Please ‘replay all’ to this email and send us a list or screenshot of your current Shopify apps. If there are any we can remove please highlight them.

Removing Shopify apps is a great way to reduce page load times. If you’d like us to quote to custom develop any simple existing apps that you pay a monthly subscription for we can. Sometimes it is cheaper, in the long run, to have that app custom coded into your theme.

5. 3rd Party Apps

If there are any 3rd party javascript snippets in the theme that you intend to remove, for examples SaaS apps. Please remove them before we start work.

With this in mind, it is best we plan which Shopify apps you use now. If you have new apps you are intending to add soon, add them before we start work. If you have apps you may remove, please remove them before we start work.

Adding new Shopify apps once the service is complete and signed off will most probably have a large impact on your page load times.

Reporting

Shopify speed optimization lite & grow

With both plans, you will receive a simple report on completion of the service.

The report will be in the form of a before and after screenshot from the GTMetrix app via email.

Live chat

Because we are all busy working on growing your ecommerce businesses we don’t offer live chat. This includes Whatsapp, Skype chat, Slack channels or texts.

This is because most meetings can be solved with a simple email, this is faster and more efficient, it also means we spend more of the time you’re paying for on work rather than admin.

This is at the core of everything we do, we try to automate and standardise all our internal processes to save time wasted on admin, which we can then use to grow your profits.

This is also because if messages are spread across multiple channels outside of email then they may get lost or forgotten, this can be dangerous and cause confusion and missed communications.

Cancellation

This is a one time service, we do not offer refunds.

We do not offer refunds based on small speed improvements.

We cannot guarantee we will improve your page load speed and they will be affected if you change the code base of the site in any way including adding or removing Shopify apps. Or simply changing the way existing Shopify apps are loaded into the website.

NB: Our site speed service is a one-time engagement. Once you sign off on our work, we can’t be held responsible for site speed changes if the website codebase or Shopify app stack is changed.
