How to optimize your email in Klaviyo to increase the revenue

by Giles ThomasLast updated on September 3, 2024

Today I’ll show you a simple tweak that can lead to an immediate boost in your revenue.

The change involves updating your logo link from a generic homepage to a specific page you want to direct people to.

The customer experience with your business doesn’t end once a purchase is made. What happens next is just as crucial if you want to secure repeat sales and maximize the revenue from each customer. Here’s everything you need to know about enhancing the post-purchase customer journey, including expert insights and practical tips. Take a look to understand why post-purchase emails are important and how to build a lasting connection with your customers that keeps them coming back.

The Value of the Customer’s Perspective

To grasp the importance of the post-purchase journey, it’s essential to see things from your customer’s viewpoint. In today’s market, consumers are overwhelmed with choices and have countless buying options at their fingertips. In this competitive landscape, it’s not just your products that influence their decisions – the quality of service they receive is equally crucial. After making a purchase, customers expect to be kept informed. They’ve just invested money and shared personal information to buy your product, so it’s vital to reassure them by staying in touch and being available to address any issues related to their purchase. Beyond the practical aspects of the post-purchase journey, there’s an opportunity to go the extra mile. You can encourage repeat business by offering well-targeted, timely email flows that build trust and keep your brand top of mind for your customers.

The Benefits of a Post-Purchase Email Marketing Strategy

Developing a strong post-purchase email campaign and marketing strategy offers significant benefits.

  • Most importantly, your customers will become much more engaged. Post-purchase emails boast an impressive 40.5% average open rate, making them an excellent opportunity to strengthen your relationship with customers.
  • This increased engagement directly translates to higher sales. Businesses that prioritize excellent post-purchase customer service have seen their revenue increase by 2.4 times. That kind of growth is something you don’t want to overlook.

Enhancing Your Customer’s Post-Purchase Experience

To achieve significant improvements in your company’s performance, focus on enhancing your customers’ post-purchase journey. Here are some key tips to help you do just that.

Thank You Notes

In addition to the usual confirmation emails, consider sending thank you notes. These messages add a personal touch and leave a more positive impression, showing your customers that you truly value their business and engagement with your brand. To ensure every customer receives this gesture, set up automated flows to avoid anyone being overlooked.

New Recommendations

Customers often need a little inspiration to shop with a brand again. Consider sending curated product suggestions based on their past browsing and purchase history. Companies that implement this level of personalization have reported that it strengthens customer relationships, with 99% seeing positive results. Strong relationships are key to fostering long-term loyalty.

Ease Delivery Concerns

It’s crucial to build trust with your customers throughout the post-purchase journey. Many shoppers experience anxiety about whether their order will arrive as expected, especially if they’re new to your brand.

You can ease that anxiety by sending timely communications, confirmations, and updates. To go even further, reassure them that a refund is available if any issues arise, and provide clear contact information for your customer service team.

The Power of the Post-Purchase Customer Journey Strategy

Any eCommerce company can greatly benefit from effectively leveraging the post-purchase customer journey. By continuing to provide exceptional customer service after the sale, your brand can build trust and keep customers engaged long after their initial purchase. This approach can have a significant positive impact on sales.

Today, I want to share a tip that has proven to be very successful for many of my clients. During my Klaviyo account audits, I noticed that many businesses place their logo at the top of their emails, which often becomes the most-clicked element. Despite this, 95% of businesses link their logo to their homepage, regardless of the email type—whether it’s an abandoned cart email, a promo email, or any other type.

This is a missed opportunity. If you’re running a promotion, your logo should link directly to the promo page. In the case of abandoned cart emails, instead of sending customers to the homepage, direct them to the checkout page where they left their purchase unfinished.

For example, in an abandoned cart email, I replaced the homepage link with the abandoned cart URL in an A/B test. This change led to an increase in orders because it directed customers to the right place.
