Shopify SEO Course ↗️ > Unit 4 > Lesson 2 > Create a Naming Convention

To keep a consistent feel from one page to the next, and to make your job easier, create a naming convention so that each time you are ready to optimize a specific page, you have an easy template to follow. This will also ensure that every page is optimized properly from the get go.

Your naming conventions should include the top keyword you are targeting first, followed by one or two secondary keywords so that you can target them as well. For example, you could set a naming convention of Keyword 1 – Shop for Keyword 2 – Business Name for your collections. Whenever you go to name your collections pages, they would be as follows.

Jeans for Men – Shop for Men’s Jeans Online – AZDenim

Jeans for Women – Shop for Women’s Jeans Online – AZDenim

Skinny Jeans for Men – Shop for Men’s Skinny Jeans Online – AZDenim

Skinny Jeans for Women – Shop for Women’s Skinny Jeans Online – AZDenim

Next, you could set a naming convention for your product pages to be Product Name Keyword 1 – Keyword 2 – Business Name. Whenever you go to name your product pages, they would be as follows.

Safari Skinny Jeans for Women – Women’s Skinny Jeans – AZDenim

In all of these naming conventions, you will find that you are able to optimize for a few keywords in one page title. For example, Safari Skinny Jeans for Women – Women’s Skinny Jeans – AZDenim allows you to optimize for the product name, skinny jeans, skinny jeans for women, jeans for women, and women’s skinny jeans. That’s four keywords you are optimizing for in one product title! Now let’s look at how to use your apply your keyword optimized naming conventions to your pages.
